SURYA.co.id - Even though the rain poured endlessly, it was not stopping us to see stunning mountains in Kabupaten Malang, East Java. That time, we chose to see the stunning Coban Rondo Waterfall in Desa Pandesari, Kecamatan Pujon.

Coban Rondo is around 25 kilometers from Kota Malang or around 12 kilometers in the western part of Kota Batu.  It is about an hour driving from Malang.

To reach Coban Rondo, the visitors could get on private or public transportation from Malang. It only needs Rp. 10.000 to reach there by getting on public transportation in the nearest stop in Cow Statue in Pujon. After that, the visitors could ask ojek to bring them to Coban Rondo.

The admission is Rp 12.000 per person, and the parking fee is Rp 1.000 - 3.000. From the entrance gate, the visitors still have to drive in around four kilometers zig-zag roads in the middle of pine forest until arriving in the parking lot. After that, the visitors still have to walk around 500 meters to the waterfall’s location.

The height of the waterfall is 84 meters. This attraction is managed by Perum Perhutani Malang and located in 1.135 meters above sea level.

With this height and strong breeze, the water from the waterfall splashes until more than a hundred meters. The more you near the waterfall, the wetter you get.

The visitors could do more exciting activities than seeing the stunning waterfall. You could do camping or out-bond.

Legend
Coban Rondo has an engaging legend, Coban means ‘Waterfall’. Some local people said that it is from ‘cobaan’ that means ‘test’.

The Legend of Coban Rondo was started with the marriage of Dewi Anjarwati from Mount Kawi with Raden Baron Kusuma from Mount Anjasmoro. After 36 days of marriage, Dewi Anjarwati wanted to see her in-law in Mount Anjasmoro. The parents of Anjarwati had already forbidden them to go there because of Javanese’s belief of their marriage was still in the initial stage.

Spiritual
In the different place, around 30 kilometers in the western part of Kota Malang, in the slope of Mount Kawi, there is an alluring waterfall, called Coban Glothak. It is located in Desa Dalisodo, Kecamatan Wagir, Kabupaten Malang.

It was unsure of the origin of its name, but according to local residents, the word glothak is from gemelothak, that means the sound of falling so hard. The height of the waterfall is around 200 meters, it is that makes it sound like gemelothak.

In Coban Glothak, there are many young visitors that want to experience adventure or even spiritual experience.

The visitors also could try to see the breath-taking view in Coban Jahe that is located in 35 kilometers in the eastern part of Kota Malang.  It is located in Dusun Begawan, Desa Pandansari Lor, Kecamatan Jabung, Kabupaten Malang.

The height of this waterfall is 30 meters. This waterfall is also the source of freshwater for local residents.

Even though it has short height, Coban Jahe is full of the historical value of the independence movement of Indonesia in 1948. Not far from this waterfall, there is a cemetery for 38 warriors from Kompi Gagak Lodra Company (Book the battle of Total Brigade IV in Independence War in Karesidenan Malang that was published by IKIP Malang with Ex Brigade IV/Brawijaya Foundation in 1997).
