Puh Sarang Church 

SURYA.co.id | KEDIRI - The ancient church called Santa Maria Puh Sarang that is located near Mount Wilis. It is approximately in Desa Puh Sarang, Kecamatan Semen, Kabupaten Kediri, East Java. Is not only a place praying for Catholics, but also become an attraction with alluring and stunning Saint Mary Cave.

People usually called this church with Puh Sarang Church. This old church was constructed by Hendricus Maclaine Pont in 1936 at the instance of Pastor Wolters, CM is a legacy from past, and it is as a proof of the harmony of the religions in Indonesia.

The architecture of the church is absorbing from local culture of Hinduism Javanese. This church with almost a century old is still in good condition.

Even though this church has been renovated for four times, in 1955. 1974, 1985, and 1999, the construction is still the same. Until this day in every Sunday, there will be a Sunday service for Catholics in this church.

This church becomes a-must-come religion travel destination for Catholics. But people, in general, could visit here to enjoy its beautiful construction.

According to Pastor Thomas Suparno, CM., a Chief of Management of Puh Sarang, Puh Sarang has been included as one of the travel destinations in Kediri, not only for the pilgrims but also all visitors in general.  

The attractive point of Puh Sarang its unique church that similar with a boat in a mountain, and Saint Mary from Lourdes Cave with 3,5 meters Saint Mary Statue that similar with the one in Lourdes in France.

In every Jumat Legi (one of the days in Javanese calendar), there are many pilgrims come here. Moreover, there are more people come in the holiday season.

Some of them want to see the cave.
The pilgrims or the visitors of Puh Sarang are not only being attracted to the old church and the cave, but also the Stations of Cross replica, but also Hut of Rosario.

Pastor Suparno added: “We want to build and manage Puh Sarang more professionally and tidy in the future, but it is still not manageable because we lack human resources. “

One proof that this church makes the local resident more prosperous is from lending the food, beverage, and merchandise vendors with no fee in Taman Hidangan Kana, inside Puh Sarang.

He also said that with the existence of Puh Sarang, the local resident could be more prosperous.
