Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek Situbondo, From Full of Trash until Full of Instagramable Spots

SURYA.co.id | Lamongan - Who knows that Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek or Grand Gathek Fishermen Village in Kecamatan Panarukan, Kabupaten Situbondo, East Java was a landfill. Now this place becomes a favorite travel destination for many people from various towns.

The access to go to Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek is pretty easy. Moreover, the access could be passed by cars. It is less than 15 minutes from downtown Kota Situbondo.

This travel destination is managed by Badan Usaha Milik Desa (BUMDes), a village-owned enterprise with two groups of fishermen.

"At first, this place was a landfill, so we constructed this travel destination from zero. Then, we also asked fishermen and residents to build all of this," Armadiyanto, the Director of BUMDes, said.

Armadiyanto added that it was not easy to change people’s mindset. It was also hard to ask them to build this travel destination.

"In the beginning, there were many refusals, even many people believed that idea was impossible, but slowly, many fishermen agreed to do this."

Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek was officially opened on 16 December 2017, the concept of this place is similar to Bangsring Under Water Banyuwangi.

"We just have opened around a month, so we still learn and share with Ikhwan, manager of Bangsring. This place also provides pools, and there is a deck for the fishermen’s boats."

Even though it has just opened a month, there are many visitors come to this place. Furthermore, there are more people come on the weekend. The admission is Rp3000 per person.

"On the weekend, there are 1000 visitors. During this new year, there were 3.000 visitors. Even though the admission is cheap, the facilities are worth it."

The visitors of Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek also could buy local snack called rengginang ikan.  Desa Gelung is a center of the production of rengginang ikan.

Nasilah, one of the visitors from Kabupaten Jember, East Java satisfied visiting Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek.

"I have just know that there is a new travel destination in Situbondo, so I visit here with my family.

Situbondo is only famous with Pasir Putih, but Kampung Nelayan Grand Gathek is also as beautiful as Pasir Putih.

Moreover, this place is also good for taking selfies. The photo spots are very instagramable." she said.
