When the dusk came, Lina Khairunissa (21) leisurely strolled in the reef cliff. With her seven friends, she was looking for good spots for taking photos and admiring the alluring panorama of Kedung Tumpang.
They strolled all over the beach, they told each other where was the best spots to take selfies. Finally, they founded some beautiful blueish-green pools from the cliffs.
The position of the pools are quite low and get some splash from the waves. When the sea water recedes, the water in the pools is quite tranquil so sometimes the visitors could take a bath there, but you have to be careful sometimes there will be waves come once in a while.
“The cliffs are very beautiful, just like I saw on Instagram,” Khairunissa said. She knew the location of this beach from social media. This beach is quite far from Surabaya. It is around 150 kilometers. She thought that Kedung Tumpang is different from other East Java’s beaches that she had already visited before. It has charming pools, and still natural.
The stalls in this area use tarpaulin as the roof. They spread in some area. The parking areas are in the agricultural lands.
To reach the shore, the visitors have to down with hard and steep footpaths. The track is down with various degree.s The width is really narrow and across crops fields.
Local residents’ initiative
There is no special safety equipment to down to the beach, except the roots of the trees and three nylon ropes with length, not more than 6 meters. Even though these are still lacking, they help the visitors, especially the one that not usually doing extreme activities.
The rope is there thanks to the initiative of local residents. Actually, there are two tracks, up and down. The up one is too steep making it does not become the choice of the visitors. The slope route is a little bit far, around 400 meters.
“The scenery is really stunning but to get there is quite hard,” Alfian, a student from Malang, said. He took many times to take rest. He came with his friends because he was curious about the scenery here.
Kedung Tumpang is between two beaches, Molang beach and Lumbung Beach that are located in the eastern part and also Glogok Beach in the western side. Molang and Lumbung are different with Kedung Lumpang. These beaches are quite a slope area and full of sands. The waves in the Molang is quite high and perfect for surfers.
Kedung Tumpang was opened by the government in the last holiday season. This beach was only come by local residents before. They came to fishing.
“Other than fishers, this beach had no visitors. It has been one month that many visitors came here. In the weekend, 1000 visitors come. Yesterday, there are some Korean and Czech tourists come here. ”Yeli Fediwanto, a tourist guide from Pucanglaban.
According to Fediwanto, the waves in Kedung Tumpang are unpredictable. Days before, there are tidal waves and making the visitors could not go down. Fediwanto had to oversee all of the visitors because the waves could ten meters high.
