SURYA.co.id | KEDIRI – Kediri City Government plan to take an advantage of Brantas River for public open space was welcomed enthusiastically.

During the holidays, many people come to Brantas River which is located under Brawijaya Bridge and Old Bridge for boat trips.

The location is very strategic. From this location, visitors can get around and enjoying the scenery of Kediri City from the river path.

Sutrisno (45) one of the visitors was curious to try a boat trip with his family. “It is quite comforted to get around the city by boat,” he said.

From the boat, Sutrisno can see Pagoda (Klenteng), Masjid Agung and Banana Island (Pulau Pisang) which located in the middle of the Brantas River at Semampir Neighborhood.

"If the boat trip in Brantas River is managed properly, it would be an attractive tourist destination in Kediri City," he added.

Moestoro, The officer of the boat rental said that the public interest in the holiday season is increased significantly.

Moestoro recognized that the river have changed from dirty become clean including homeless people who used to live under the bridge have also left since there was an operation of hygiene on the river banks.

"We are thankful if the government is using the river banks for the villagers because tourist activities are very demanding,” he explained.

To check the stream of the Brantas River, Kediri Regional Disaster Management Agency (Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah – BPBD Kediri) has conducted testing with SAR boats. The boat which made from fiberglass is transporting children traveling down the river.

The Head of BPBD Kediri Syamsul Bahri explained, the stream of Brantas River is still quite suitable for the boat trips activities. "The stream is not so heavy," he explained.

At the same time, The mayor of Kediri City Abdullah Abu Bakar has applied for permission to the Ministry of Public Works to take advantage of Brantas River as public open space.

The place itself has been cleaned and flatten. Some activities have even been held on the Brantas River banks.
